You may have seen the same recycled tweets about "going to the cinema alone is a different level of lonely." It’s actually a different type of lovely.

I’ve always been the type of person to drag someone else to the cinema with me. I was the friend who kept up with the movies, so when I saw a trailer that intrigued me, guess what. You’re coming too.

But then my schedule changed. I worked weekends, and my free days were during the weekdays. So people were mainly at work or school while I was free.

One day, I really wanted to see Final Destination Bloodlines in IMAX, so I impulsively bought a ticket and just went. That became the first time I went to the cinema by myself, and it was a very enjoyable experience. Being there alone didn’t make me enjoy the film any less. I was still hype talking about the film to people who didn’t even see it with me.

It’s also really peaceful to be in your own company. When you’re with someone, there may be occasional chatter. And I’m not going to act like I haven’t leaned over to a friend and reacted in real time to a film. But going by yourself, you don’t have anyone else in your ear, and you don’t distract yourself with your own words while the film is still actively screening.

For the people who want to study film, I think going to the cinema alone is a great way to lock in and focus on the details, like cinematography, sound, lighting, and still enjoy the film. Plus, you're seeing the film in theaters, how it was meant to be experienced.

There are so many reasons to go to the cinema alone. You don’t have to wait on anyone else. You can watch what you want to watch. And it’s just a way to treat yourself.

You’ll never know how you truly feel about something if you don’t experience it for yourself, so don’t fall for a tweet just because it’s been recycled thousands of times.

And regardless of whether you are with someone or not, the way you feel about the film you just watched will likely remain unchanged.
